12 of the Scouts have just had a great summer camp at the Great Towers Scout Activity Centre in the Lake District. The weather was typical “lake district weather” i.e. wet and chilly sometimes. But that didn’t stop the Scouts enjoying lots of out door activities including a trip to the Honister Pass and an amazing climbing experience on the Via Ferrata (Italian for Iron way) as we climbed out at 2500ft above the road below to scramble all over the mountain side, and finished the day with a glorious view from the mountain top. Unfortunately the planned Gill Scrambling was cancelled due to too much rain (what else!) so the Scouts had to brave Jacobs Ladder and The Wobbly Pole instead. We had a visit from Anja (our ex scout leader) and 3 Scouts from 1st Appleby Scouts, for a BBQ and some wide games. A morning of retail therapy in Windermere and a 9 mile hike from the stone circle at Castlerigg via Walla Crag to picturesque stone bridge at Ashness and back again. For a couple of our Scouts it was their last camp with us, so this was finishing on a high.
